Hospices

The Trustees are supportive of UK-based hospices and are interested in supporting capital appeals from them. Typical projects include extensions or alterations to existing premises; refurbishment projects; purchase of new or upgraded equipment which improves the quality of life for resident and day patients; minibuses. We occasionally make grants towards the building of new hospices, depending on the total cost of the project.

Grants requests from £10,000 to £30,000 are considered.

Hospices must have raised at least 50% of the funds required before making an application.

Hospices do not need to demonstrate in their application their relevance to the Rural Issues or Urban Deprivation themes, but Trustees do like to hear about the area which the hospice serves and any particular challenges it presents.

Unlike other Large Grant appeals, the total project cost may exceed £1 million, but you are advised that the Trustees will give preference to projects where the grant requested would make a significant impact. We therefore recommend that you should not apply if your project is in excess of £5 million.

The Trustees prefer grants to be for a specific part of a project (e.g. for a room, for a piece of equipment) and you should explain exactly what the grant would be spent on in your application.

We do not consider applications from hospices for running or salary costs, or for requests below £10,000.
