Types of grants

The Foundation currently makes over 300 grants a year of which the majority are small grants (averaging £5,000). A small number of larger grants (i.e. over £10,000) are awarded each year.

The Foundation offers grants under two separate programmes:

The Small Grant Programme (capital and revenue grants)

  • offers grants under £10,000 only to organisations with annual incomes below £300,000 p.a.;

  • grants are for one-off purposes within the priorities set out above and must be spent within six months of receipt;

  • grants can be for one-off capital items, such as equipment or small capital works, or towards six months running costs;

  • for requests of under £5,000, there is a programme to “fast track” the appeals so that applicants will know the outcome within six to eight weeks of receipt of the application;

  • applicants should complete form A to apply for a small grant.

  • is available to all organisations of any size;

  • offers grants of normally between £10,000 and £30,000 for capital projects only (i.e. equipment, building or capital works);

  • capital grants will not normally be offered to very large capital projects (e.g. over £1m), but individual and discrete elements of very large projects may be considered when a significant proportion of the total appeal has already been raised;

  • applicants should complete form B to apply for a large grant.

Note to all applicants

Demand for larger grants is high:- at present only one in ten applications is successful so please consider applying for a small grant if your annual income is below £300,000 as you may stand more chance of success.
